The Outer Banks Community Foundation awarded $124,000 in Community Enrichment Grants to 11 local nonprofits this quarter.

"These are truly some amazing projects," says Scout Schillings, the foundation's grants manager.

Among the recipients: Carolina Cross Connection, which will use the money to build safe-access projects for Dare County residents, like wheelchair ramps.

The Chicamacomico Historical Association, which will use the money to restore the 1874 Life-Saving Station in Rodanthe.

The First Flight Society, which will use the money to capture the life and career of inventor Francis Rogallo, whose flexible wing invention led to the development of aerial sports, including hang-gliding and paragliding.

The Outer Banks SPCA, which will use the money to upgrade its animal care vehicle to a 2024 Ford F150 truck specifically designed for holding animals.

The YMCA of South Hampton Roads, which will use the money to improve aquatics services for local schools.
